Do you have a playlist for your life?

This is a new thing. I’m going to share my reviews of the business and personal growth books I read every month or so. I’m also going to share how I’ve applied what I learned from my favorite book. If it’s not your thing, you can unsubscribe – no offense taken!

Drumm Roll, please (not a misspelling)… My personal favorite of the five books I read in July and August is:

The Leader’s Playlist by Susan Drumm | Purchase Link | What I got from it: I can consciously choose to attach particular songs to specific feelings. When I’m feeling things that I associate with negative patterns – I can call up the related songs in my brain and use them to interrupt the pattern. What’s more, I can also attach songs to all the really positive feelings I have or want to have. That playlist of positive songs can help me sustain a more optimistic outlook. It can make me a better human to be around. | Rating: [5] 5 Content Stars, 5 Style Stars | Category: Self-Betterment

This new effort is called:

And it comes with a podcast featuring the author of my favorite book of the month:

How I Applied Lessons from The Leader’s Playlist:

  1. When you purchase her book, Susan Drumm provides a ton of resources to help you master the content and apply it to your life. I wanted to push a bit further and use a relational database to make applying it to my life easier.
  2. I also wanted to extend Susan’s concept to include scripture attached to each significant feeling. This is NOT something suggested by Susan after years of significant research and study. It’s simply something that seemed right for me.

Other Business/Personal Growth Books Read in July and August:

  1. Thank & Grow Rich by Pam Grout | Purchase Link | What I got from it: Ask God for what you need. He’ll give it to you, and there are no restrictions on quantity or quality. | Rating: [4] 3 Content Stars; 5 Style Stars | Category: Self-Betterment
  2. Rocket Fuel by Gino Wickman, Mark C. Winters | Blinkist Summary | Purchase Link | What I got out of it: I am blessed to have a great business partner, Josh Prior, who complements my strengths and shores up my weaknesses. I also learned that it’s okay to let go of the things you don’t like doing but are good at in favor of the things you love and are great at doing. | Rating: [5] 5 Content Stars, 5 Style Stars | Category: Business Structure
  3. Get A Grip by Gino Wickman | Purchase Link | What I got from it: This book provides a detailed example of how a fictional business implemented EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System). We ended up self-implementing using the examples as a guide. It definitely brings everything you learn in the Traction book by Gino to life. | Rating: [5] 5 Content Stars, 5 Style Stars | Category: Business Process
  4. David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell | Blinkist Summary | Purchase Link | What I got from it: Whatever you think is a personal weakness has the potential to be leveraged as one of your greatest strengths. | Rating: [5] 5 Content Stars, 5 Style Stars | Category: Business Philosophy
